Adding a Paragraph

Now, we should add some text so we have prepared some for this use:

Hello Eaglehawk fans,

Welcome to the premier fan site of the Baltimore Eaglehawks, covering the 2007 season with in depth news and results as the Eaglehawks attempt to lift the American All-Pro Championship in November for the fourth time in their 38 year history.

Copy the text above into your computer’s memory (hold down your left mouse button and drag your pointer across the text to highlight it, then right click the text and select copy from the menu, or press Ctrl and C on your keyboard).

In the 350pages editor, hover over the large paragraph in the middle of the page. You should see the paragraph flash slowly to show that it is highlighted for editing. Click on the highlighted text or click on the pen icon in the Editor Menu to enter the text editor.

The text editor is where you can enter, edit and delete text that will appear on your webpage. (Note – All the templates have helpful text on them so it is worthwhile to read the default text for hints about 350pages that may help you in the editing process.)

Now take a look at the icons. On the first row, click on the wand icon (fourth one along). This will select all of the text in the text box. Now, press the delete key to remove all of this text, and then click on the paste icon (seventh along). The text you copied earlier from this tutorial will appear in the text box so that you can edit it. (Note – clicking on the text and selecting Ctrl and A, delete and then Ctrl and V will also do the same function. Additionally, some browsers do disable copy and paste via buttons for security reasons – in these cases, you will need to use the keyboard command for pasting (Ctrl V)).

Since this is the opening paragraph of our site, we should probably make it stand out from the rest of the page. Click the wand icon again, and click the B icon, first one on the second row. This will convert all of that text into a bold typeface.

Now click the save button in the text editor, which will replace all of the original paragraph text with a bold, opening paragraph related to the Eaglehawks. Below this, we should give our site visitors a description of the Eaglehawks. Let’s add a picture of the stadium.

Hover over the paragraph you have just created and click the insert button ( symbol). Choose Image, and click on the After button. This will once again bring up the Selection Box, showing the photos in the Photo tab. Choose ‘Sports and Games’ from the category drop down. Locate the picture of the baseball stadium and click to select it. The photo editor will open, but we don’t need to worry about this for now, so close the editor by selecting the X in the top right.

As you can see, this has placed the stadium photo on the left of the main content panel. However, it would balance the page better if we centered the image. Hover your mouse over the image to display the Editor options and click on the middle alignment button (fourth alignment option). This will shift the photo to be centered.

Let’s add another paragraph to this page. Something about the history of the club would probably be a good idea:

The Baltimore Eaglehawks were founded in 1969 by avid baseball fan and local businessman Rudolph Rickson. Mr. Rickson was a fan of the All-Pro American League and wished to see a Maryland based team winging its way to success in the long-standing competition. Since its inception, the Eaglehawks have not lost their focus on being all about the sport rather than the money. They first won the competition in 1979, and then twice more in 1988 and 1989 when they earned the nickname of the Shutout Kings. Although luck has not been on their side more recently, true and proud Eaglehawk fans stand by the team, shining as a committed testament of the Eaglehawk ethos.

Our Eaglehawks have a pretty good history, don’t they? Copy this text to the clipboard as you did earlier using Ctrl and C. Then hover your mouse pointer over the stadium image to view the Editor options and click on the insert icon again ( icon. Choose Paragraph and click After to place the paragraph underneath the photo. This will open the text editor. Again, you should select all of this text using the wand icon and delete it with your delete key, and then paste in the copied text using the paste button.
