Q. Can I get a domain name for my 350pages website? Yes. For a small fee paid annually, you can register a domain name through 350pages. From your 350pages control panel, click on the My Details button. You should see a list of subscriptions on the left hand side of the screen. Find the domain description and click the appropriate Buy button, then follow the prompts to register your domain. Q. Can I use my own domain name with 350pages? You can transfer your own domain for us to administer with your website. Select the 3rd Party Domain Name service that is available in the My Services tab of the My Account section. Q. How can I edit an object on my web page? Simply click on an object or hover your mouse pointer over the object and click on the Edit button in the Object Menu that appears. Every type of object on the page has its own editor. Click on the question mark in the editing window for specific help on that editor. Q. How can I insert an object on my web page? There are 2 ways to insert a new object on your page: Auto Format Templates - Hover over an object on the page to see the Object Menu, then select ‘New’. Select the type of object and whether you want it positioned before or after or to replace the item that you have selected. Using this method will link the new object to the existing one so that it will always be in the selected position regardless of any changes in the browser size when using a small or large monitor. Free Format Templates - Select the New Object
icon on the top Page Control menu then select
the type of object you require. You can drag
the object into any position that you desire.
Q. What is auto-format and what are the advantages? When you use one of these templates the webpage will automatically update and adjust other content on the page, for example, when you change the amount of text or insert extra images. Another great feature is that you can select to have a variable width template which will automatically adjust to the viewer's browser screen and text size to display the best layout for each viewer. This is perfect until you want to have more detailed control to adjust one of the layout for your own design. You can either add new floating objects or change the properties of existing objects to make them floating. If you wish to use floating objects on an
auto-format template then you should use
fixed-width templates, (select this from
the page properties on the top bar). The
reason for this is because the auto-format
templates will automatically adjust to the
viewer's browser but the floating image
will stay where you put it, so you may see
some unexpected results if you are using
a variable template. Q. Can I move my objects freely around the web page when using the auto-format templates? Yes, to drag and drop an object on your 350page, you need to set the object to "Floating" status. Hover over the item in the editor and click on the Object Properties button from the menu (second button along). Check the "Floating" box and click Save. You can now hold down the mouse button on this item to drag it to a different area of the screen. You can also resize the object by holding down the mouse button on the purple button.Q. Can I remove the adverts from my page? The 350pages free service is supported by advertisments, but you can remove these by subscribing to any of our paid services. From your 350pages control panel, click on the My Account button. You should see a list of subscriptions. Find the description and click the appropriate Buy button. Follow the prompts to submit your card details. Q. I purchased the paid service, but I still have the adverts on my page. To remove the adverts from your existing web page once you have upgraded, go to your File Manager and republish your pages. This will remove the adverts from your published website. Q. How do I make my web page live? You need to publish it. If you’re in the Page Editor, simply click on the Done button (the big tick mark) on the Page Control, name your page, click on the Publish checkbox and then click on Save. If you’re in the File Manager, click on the Publish button of the web page to automatically publish it. If for any reason you want to remove the web page from the web, click on the Unpublish button to automatically unpublish it. Q. The text in my floating paragraph cuts off. How do I change this? Your text is too big for the paragraph to display. There are two ways you can solve this - either increase the size of the paragraph, or turn on the Text Overflow option for the paragraph. To increase the size of the paragraph, in the Page Editor, hover over the paragraph until the blue boxes appear in the paragraph's corners. Hover over one of these and hold down your mouse button, and then drag the corner out to set the new size of the paragraph. You can change the text overflow setting in a floating paragraph by going to the Properties of the object (from within the Page Editor, hover over the object until the editing bar appears, and then click on the second button). From this dialog box, you will see a drop down menu marked Text Overflow. If you change this from Hide to Show, a scroll bar will be added to your paragraph so that it can be scrolled up and down to see all of the text. This is useful if you want visitors to access large amounts of text on your web page. Q. How can I delete an object on my web page? To delete an object on your web page, hover the mouse pointer over the object you wish to remove, and then click on the Delete button from the Object Menu. A window will appear asking you to confirm whether you wish to delete the object or not. Please note that the object cannot be restored once it has been deleted. Any changes made to your web page will be reflected immediately. Q. Can I edit a single button? Yes. Click on the button to open the button bar editor. On the right hand side, the last icon, allows you to edit that individual button. Q. What’s that strange number alongside the colors in the Graphics Editor? This is for the more advanced users who wish to select a very precise color. It is the RGB reference number for that color. Advanced users can enter an RGB or HEX number for any particular color. Users can also enter the name of the standard web colors, eg green, scarlet, purple. Q. What are the lettered squares inside the color picker for? These allow you to fully customize your colour based on the RGB and HSV values. Simply clicking the R,G,B,C,M or Y will add more red, green, blue, cyan, magenta or yellow to your color. The S, V or H will increase or decrease the saturation, brightness, or hue in the color. At any time you can undo each step or completely reset the color back to the original. Q. Why does the text on my graphic button overflow off the end? If your text is overflowing the edges of a graphic, then you will need to increase the width of the graphic. Click on the Effects tab in the graphic editor and increase the maximum width size. If you feel this makes your graphic too big, then try reducing the size of the font instead. Q. How do I know if my files are published? In your File Manager, files that are published will have a check in the box under the Pub column of your file list. Published files will also have a link to them under the Type column. In the icon view a letter P will be present on the web page thumbnail. Q. I can't publish something I've uploaded, why? It's possible that you are trying to publish an uploaded file from a free account. Certain types of files are not permitted for publishing in free accounts, and you will need to upgrade to the paid service in order to do this. If you have a paid account and you're having trouble publishing files, then please let our support team know and we will try and help solve the problem. Q. Why did objects disappear from my web page after I moved/renamed/deleted a file in my File Manager? Your web page is made up of many customizable objects. When you create a web page, the web page needs to know where the objects are so that it can display them. After a web page is created, if these objects are moved or renamed or deleted, the web page won't be able to find them and so the objects will disappear. To solve this, you can either move or upload the file back to its original state, or edit the object on the web page so that it will register its location when the web page is saved. Q. 350pages works correctly on my home computer, but not on my laptop or work computer. Why is this? The most likely scenario for this is an out of date or unsupported browser. Although 350pages is designed to work in all browsers that support the current web standards, you may experience difficulties in certain functions with older versions and less popular browsers. Always update your software to the latest version to try and resolve any flaws between different computers, and if you still have problems, our support team will be happy to look into any specific issues you may have. Q. How do I undo my changes? You can end your current session without saving by going to the Done button (the big tick mark) on the Page Control, and then clicking on the Abandon tab. This will ensure that any work you’ve done in that session will not be saved, and that the web page will be in the same state as it was before you started work on that particular editing session. Q. Can I enhance or alter my photos with 350pages? The 350pages photo editor allows you to change many aspects of the photos you have already uploaded. Click on the photo to edit it within your page or from the 350pages control panel or from the File Manager to open the photo editor. Q. How do people find my website through the Search Engines? Go to the Page Properties option in the Page Control to set all the information required by the search engines, eg title, descriptions and keywords. You can then submit your webpages to the Search Engines via our partner Buildtraffic. To do this, publish your webpage and click on the link to Buildtraffic shown on the confirmation screen. This will ensure that your website is listed so that potential visitors can find you. Q. I don’t have the time - can you create my site for me? We have a range of add-ons for your site that you can use available from the other Library pages. Simply click on the Home button on this page to see that list. Please remember that incorrect use of HTML can cause unexpected and/or damaging effects to a page, so it is best to make a copy of your page from your File Manager before you experiment with HTML. Q. You can find printable invoices in the My Account section of your account, under the My Statement tab. Q. Where can I see the latest updates for 350pages? There are two places. Can I transfer my account content and credit to a different 350pages membership? Although you are not able to do this through the 350pages website builder, we can transfer account data to another 350pages account for you. Please contact the support team who will be able to assist you if necessary. Q. Where can I get more detailed help for...? If your query isn’t answered here, then you can get more help on a particular topic by clicking on the question mark in any editing window for specific assistance on how to use that facility. Alternatively, there are also Quick Guides and a Tutorial available from the Information Library, which can be accessed from your 350pages Home page, or from http://library.350.com. |
